Bath Salts Ruled Out

Last month I blogged about the Miami face eater that ate a homeless man's face off and was killed by the police for the horrific attack. Well, the toxicology test came back a few days ago, the test showed that there was no bath salts in Rudy Eugene system but marijuana was found in him.

The toxicology laboratory also said that it doesn't rule out other drugs that the test can't detect. I'm not sure if the marijuana was laced with some other type of synthetic drug, I don't smoke so I have no idea. But I do hear that some marijuana get other ingredients mixed in, enhancing the potency? Again I don't know for sure but that's what I've heard. That's why I say no to drugs!  :)

On a lighter note! the homeless man is doing fine and is in recovering. More on the toxicology test findings, click here.

Obama Health Care

The Supreme Court upholds Obamacare individual mandate.

President Obama wanted to pass this bill for healthcare because millions of people are without health insurance in the United States, what does this mean to us? we are required to get insurance or pay a tax penalty. Single adult could pay $95 a year or up to 1% of their income; a family could pay $285 a year or up to 1% of their income. Please Note!!! the price of the penalty goes up every year. This mandatory healthcare doesn't take effect until 2014.

I don't know if I'm on board with this only because I have a lot of questions of my own and I need a thorough explanation on how this is going to work. What if a person is out of work, how do they get insurance without a job? what about prescription plans? will it be priced the same as before or will that go up as well? and the same question for co-pay.

Not only we are forced, I mean required to have already pricy insurance but the lower-income families have to dish out more money to keep up with their insurance or to insure their entire family so they don't have to pay the penalty. It's already a struggle to pay for the gauging price of food, gasoline, sales taxes, clothes, education/loans and everything else. I don't have insurance right now and I hope this does not backfire on the United States. For more info on the healthcare bill, click here.

What are your thoughts on the Obama Health Care?

Knocking at my Door

"Behold, I stand at the door and Knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and sup with him, and he with me." Revelations 3:20

I too heard the knock on the door. A few weeks ago in the middle of the night I heard two knocks on my door as clear as day. I couldn't explain it, the knocks were pretty clear and loud enough for me to hear. Previously I prayed about a specific situation that had happened to me awhile ago and wanted an answer to. I prayed the same prayer the night before I heard the knock; The knock didn't scare me it just alarm me a little. God answers prayers and reality not all prayers get answered. I know that every prayer can't always be answered the way we want them to but the right ones can with a message.

I'm not a preacher nor do I want to just preach but I too heard the knock on the door.

Illinois Cigarette Tax Increase

Illinois decided to pass a bill to add an additional $1 tax on the sale of cigarettes on Sunday.

I'm not a smoker nor do I want to start, I can't stand cigarettes or any sorts of smokes. Since cigarettes going to cost people an additional dollar, will that deter people from buying cigarettes? probably not due to the fact that it's hard to quit smoking and I don't think the price gauge will stop them from buying it either.

The original tax on cigarettes was $0.98 now it'll be $1.98, of course this angered a lot of smokers, they might have to travel long distances for cheaper smokes, who knows. But living in this fantastic city *sarcasm* I wouldn't be surprise if they increase taxes on toilet paper.

Matcha Green Tea Frozen Yogurt Review

Saturday I went to a local mall after the movies just to window shop, well actually go for some Caribou Coffee until I stumble across a Yogen Fruz shop on the second level. And everyone that knows me know that I LOVE frozen yogurt because it's healthy and I'm somewhat of a health nut. There were a lot of selections to choose from but I decided to get the matcha green tea because I happen to like green tea drinks.

I'm not sure how many toppings you get but apparently certain flavors come with certain toppings to compliment the taste. After suggestions from the cashier, mines would taste better with Mochi bits, which is a Japanese rice cake. The taste was slightly odd, it didn't remind me of matcha but it reminded me of a milder, earthy flavor of imitation green tea. It almost had a salty taste to it, thank goodness the mochi helped a lot to sweeten the flavor. If I were to go back I'll have to stick with my usual chocolate frozen yogurt.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter Review

This movie was produced by Time Burton, which is notorious for beautifully dark tales.

This movie was about a future president looking for vengeance of his mother's death but not knowing the person that murdered his mother was a vampire. Running across a foe that helps him train to slay these vampire pests. Overall, this movie had potential but it dragged throughout with political speeches and going off target rants. I could have waited for it on rental, I'll give it a 2 1/2 stars but watchable.

He's Got My Back

He's always first in my life

He's never turned his back on me

He always there for me no matter what

He always listens to me when I talk to him

Nice Girls Finish Last Too

You always here the phrase, "Nice Guys Finish Last."

But what about the nice girls? this rule applies to us as well. Guys always complain they can't find a good woman but when they get them they don't know how to treat them right or they get scared. They are so used to the bad women that treat them so badly, when a good one comes along and treats them good they freak out.

I hate to say this but a lot of guys want the gold diggers that take every last bit of your money, the superficial ones that look in the mirror more than they look at you, what about the woman that emasculates you, putting you down constantly? or go out of their way to rip out your heart and crush it with their bare hands?

I notice when I'm nice to a guy he either, takes advantage of my kindness or thinks I'm weak. The guy didn't appreciate me because I was nice and went out of my way to be a good woman to him; it wasn't good enough. I know I'm a good person and I have a lot to offer someone but DAMN do I have to rattle some cages to get the same treatment I give to them? Heck NO!!! I believe in, "Treat others as you wish to be treated" until the day I die. I'm going to continue to be my nice-self and treat others good. If they can't handle that, then tough!

Does being nice means you will put up or tolerate a lot more crap? or willing to ignore the crap to be with that partner? does being nice really pay off?

If nice guys finish last, then nice girls finish last too?

Do you think nice girls finish last too?

Taking Risks

"Taking risks is not taking the safe route, but it's taking the one less traveled one."

Not the best quote but you get the logistics. Have I been taking risks lately? to be honest, Not really! not like I should. I've been coasting or going with the flow of things. I will say this, I've took risks with relationships and those failed miserably, but those risks wasn't good enough. I consider those everyday life experiences that happens to everyone in their lifetime.

Obviously, we take some risks everyday like crossing the street or driving a car, but what about taking risks with job opportunities or making that move to another state? I have some friends and family that made those moves to move out of state and took job opportunities of a lifetime and never looked back since.

I've been wanting to move out of state for a few years now but a lot things are in my way and need to be taken care of first. It cost money to move, to find a place and not to mention SAVE, let alone finding security in employment. Others took those risks and made it without any regrets, that will be me soon.

Photo of the Day

Downtown Chicago (Buckingham Fountain)

R.I.P. Rodney King

Rodney King was famous for the quote "Can we all get along?" after getting beaten by the Los Angeles police back in March of '91 sparking the nation's worst racial riots in history. Rodney King passed away Sunday June 17, 2012 on an apparent accidental drowning. His fiancee found him at the bottom of the pool. I think it might have been suicide because he was a great swimmer and often swim a lot. Others think his fiancee might have something to do with it... I doubt it!

The 47 year old dealt with the physical and emotional aches and pains since the beating resulting in alcoholism and repeated arrests over the years. But he seemed like he turned his life around, King decided to come out with a autobiography "The Riot Within: My Journey From Rebellion to Redemption" about his life and reliving the LA beating that took place. An autopsy is being performed to determine whether or not alcohol or drugs played a role in his death.

Bacon! Bacon! Bacon! BKs Summer Menu

Burger King has done it again... bringing out new and exciting food and drink items.

It is brought to my attention that BK is bringing out a Bacon Sundae along with other limited items this summer. The bacon sundae has vanilla ice cream, caramel and fudge, pieces of bacon and a BIG piece of bacon on top. I guess they are going for a salt and sweet type of treat.

It has 510 calories, 18 grams of fat and 61 grams of sugar. It doesn't look too appetizing to me because of the combo of bacon, ice cream, fudge and caramel sauce.

BK also added similar items of McDonald's which I came to the conclusion that BK is trying to bring in more customers due to competition.

For the rest of the summer items, Burger King is bringing out Frozen Lemonade, Sweet Potato Fries and other BBQ items.

I don't know but would you try the Bacon Sundae when it comes out?

Prometheus Review

I decided to go see Prometheus with my family yesterday because it looked very interesting and I'm into Sci-Fi movies. I'm going to try not to spoil the movie for some that didn't see it.

Prometheus is a prequel to the Aliens franchise... same director of Aliens. A team of a couple of doctors, engineers, pilots, captain and enthusiastic individuals seek out the first origins of mankind discovering more than what they expected. Pretty much Prometheus is the spacecraft they were on and flew to some unknown place where there was a tomb-like cave. ******SPOILER******* that tomb-like cave ended up being a spaceship taking flight for earth to wipe it out of existence.

All in all, the movie had me a little scratching my head with questions. The acting was so so could be better, towards the end of the movie kind of dragged a little; at one point I actually thought the movie was about to end but it didn't. I thought this movie was OK, I felt like it was missing something, more of an explanation.

What's your preference? Myspace or Facebook?

This is just a curiosity, which one do you like better Myspace or Facebook?

I happened to have both Myspace and Facebook accounts and there are pros and cons to both. I signed up to Myspace in 2005 while attending college and all my classmates had a Myspace account. So I joined the Myspace bandwagon. The pros was you can customize your page with cool backgrounds and effects, also you can add your favorite videos or images anywhere on your page, not to mention music artists and playlist of songs of your choice.

It was also easier to add random people for the heck of it without jumping thru hurdles because you don't know them. With that being said, there are cons to having a Myspace account. The cons would be that you'll get spam friend requests or inbox messages frequently. I would get a lot of weird friend request from guys looking for a good time. creepy!!!

Also, there's the too much freedom of sexuality. What I mean by this is that you can get away with posting nudity or close to nothing pictures on your page without penalty. Things are more LEWD...and not to mention the profanity is so bad. There is no shame what people put on their Myspace accounts. One more thing I want to add, it takes forever to load to your homepage when you log in.

After dealing with all the nonsense with Myspace, I decided to give Facebook a try because a friend of mines created an account and it seemed a lot tamer. The cool thing about Facebook is it's much easier to find people because they use a first and last name username unless you have a different alias name. You can create events, write notes and write on people's wall with ease. Facebook added a system where you can post where you are going (places) and with whom (facebook friends).

The cons would be Facebook changes their format more frequently which can be annoying especially if you've gotten used to the standard structure. It seems like a lot of people are airing out their dirty laundry on Facebook. Their drama with their baby's mom/dad, drama with their boyfriend/girlfriend, how much they hate their boss etc. even all that being said, I'm on Facebook a lot more than Myspace because it's cleaner/less lewd, easier to use and I can connect with people more.

What's your preference? Myspace or Facebook?

Do you TEXT or talk on the PHONE more?

This is the old age question because technology has changed so much for people to communicate to each other more efficiently. Remember the payphones and pagers? they were the one stop technology to communicate with people. To use the payphone you'll have to have change (.25 cents) to make a call. I've never had a pager before but you'll get paged with a message to call the person back whether through a payphone, a landline phone or a bulky cell phone.

This topic came about when the news recently discussed how people text a lot more than using the phone nowadays. When text messaging came around I wasn't too knowledgeable about it at the time. So when my friends had text messaging they always want to text me but since I didn't have it because lack of knowledge I always use the cell to talk to them.

After learning that text messaging has become more popular over the years, I've decided to get a text message package on m cell phone. I began texting little by little, I STILL would rather call my friends and family than texting because I'm old fashion and rather have a interpersonal conversation, but sending a text once in a while is helpful especially when someone is at work or at an event and can't be disturb by chattiness on the phone. Some people that is starting out in the text message world may not get the short abbreviation meanings like (lol) laugh out loud, (omg) oh my gosh or whatever "G" word in replacement; (smh) shaking my head, (pm) personal message, (ttyl) talk to you later and the list goes on.

Let me know your thoughts on text messaging versus phone conversation.

Need a daily dose of GOOD sleep

So I've been dealing with insomnia for a couple of years or so, I don't know where it originally came from but it's quite annoying. Either I can't fall asleep until really late at night or I'll fall asleep at a reasonable time but awaken the middle of the night. *Sigh* sometimes I can't win.

I do know that when laying down on my bed I start to think about my day or I'll start thinking about what I'm going to do the next day or two or three down the road, which can be bothersome because my mind starts to race.

I've seen remedies to help with insomnia like drinking chamomile tea, warm milk or eating turkey because it has Tryptophan which apparently causes sleepiness or relaxation. Trying those remedies took a little longer for me to fall asleep. Experts say don't take sleeping pills because it doesn't produce Rapid Eye Movement (REM) which the body needs to regenerate.

So I've read somewhere on a medical site that Melatonin is good to take because it's natural and the brain produces Melatonin anyway, so I said why not? I tried it and it took about 30 - 45 minutes to kick in. The only downfall for taking Melatonin is there are side effects like having scary nightmares and residual drowsiness. I'm sure there are more side effects but I personally rather fall asleep like a normal person.

Delicious Delights

One of my guilty pleasures in life is awesome tea and pastries to go with. I love love love tea and have a sweet tooth to match. There's this cafe place called Julius Meinl in Chicago that have a variety of coffees, teas, pastries, and sandwiches. Julius is a Vienna cafe that serves breakfast, brunch and desserts.

There are a lot selections of teas like black, green, white, mate, rooibos, herbal and fruit tea infusion teas. My favorite tea so far is the rooibos Caramel that had caramel pieces in it. As far as desserts, my absolute favorite is the Opera which has espresso-drenched almond cake, espresso buttercream, chocolate ganache and a symbol of a music note next to it is the icing on the cake. Nom Nom Nom!!!

There are others like the Black Forest which has kirsch mousse, chocolate cake, brandied cherries, chocolate mousse. The Apfelstrudel that had apples, golden raisins, cinnamon, baked in a flaky pastry is also good. All in all this place is awesome and a must try if you are in the area or are in town for a visit.
